The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has constituted a caretaker committee to oversee the affairs of its Lagos State Chapter.
In a statement by SWAN President Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, through the Secretary-General of the Association, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, the new caretaker committee, approved by the NEC, will be led by experienced sports journalist Mr Patrick Omorodion as Chairman for the next three months.
Other members of the three-person committee are Mr Oni Afolabi, who will serve as Secretary, and Ms. Anulika Menanya, as a member.
The constitution of the committee represents the national leadership’s determination to address outstanding administrative issues in the Lagos State Chapter, restore stability and unity among members, and create the necessary conditions for a smooth transition to an elected executive.
Among its key responsibilities, the committee is mandated to identify and recover properties and official assets belonging to the Lagos State Chapter, establish proper records of recovered items, and submit an inventory to the National Secretariat.
It is also expected to promote reconciliation and strengthen relationships among members, while working with the National Secretariat to review and verify the chapter’s membership register in preparation for the forthcoming election.
As part of the electoral process, the committee will facilitate arrangements for establishing the Lagos State SWAN Electoral Committee (SWANECO), subject to the NEC approval and in line with the Association’s Statutes and electoral guidelines.
The committee will also maintain regular communication with the National Secretariat, provide updates on its activities, and ensure that relevant administrative records and chapter assets are properly documented for handover to the duly elected leadership.
SWAN’s national leadership considers the stabilisation of the Lagos State Chapter important to the overall growth of the Association and the promotion of professional unity among sports journalists.
The National President Benjamin expressed confidence that the committee would discharge its responsibilities with transparency, impartiality and a strong sense of duty, while prioritising the collective interests of members.
